🚨 TikTok US Ban & Restoration – What You Need to Know

TikTok LIVE US Creator Network Update

Last night at 00:00 EST, TikTok was officially banned in the U.S., in accordance with the law requiring ByteDance to divest or face a shutdown. As we know for a brief period (I'm currently on TikTok via PC as this is written and posts), the platform went dark, leaving millions of creators and businesses in limbo.

Then, this morning, President Trump released a statement:

"I’m asking companies not to let TikTok stay dark! I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect, so that we can make a deal to protect our national security… I would like the United States to have a 50% ownership position in a joint venture… With our approval, it is worth hundreds of billions—maybe trillions."

In response, TikTok confirmed it is restoring service in collaboration with its providers, assuring that no penalties will be placed on those supporting the platform.

This means TikTok is back online, and we can expect features like LIVE to be restored in the coming hours.

đź“Ś The Situation Right Now

While Trump’s executive order delays enforcement, it does not yet resolve TikTok’s legal status permanently. Discussions are now shifting toward potential outcomes:

  • A Joint Venture with U.S. Ownership? Trump has proposed a 50% ownership stake for the U.S. in a new TikTok entity, ensuring its continued operation under American oversight. This could present its own issues.

  • ByteDance’s Position: Despite mounting pressure, ByteDance has stated it will not sell TikTok. This could lead to further legal and political maneuvering.

  • Ongoing Uncertainty: While service is being restored, the long-term resolution is still unclear. This is not the first time TikTok has faced bans or restrictions, and the platform has continued to operate despite challenges.

Apple has also issued a support document regarding how the ban interacts with ByteDance-owned apps like Lemon8, CapCut, and Lark.

Additionally, questions around creator balances and payouts have come up—simply put, your balance is yours. TikTok is required to fulfill payouts, and there are no indications of any defaults with payments to creators.
